The Norwich Inn and its prolific brewer, Patrick Dakin scored a Gold and two Silver Medals Medal at the Great International Beer & Cider Competition which took place in Providence Rhode Island. The 13th annual event held on November 13th, featured 247 beers and ciders from 53 breweries and cideries from 15 states and 4 foreign countries. Forty-five professional brewers and beer industry journalists acted as judges in a blind tasting format. First, second and third place awards were presented in 20 categories of ales, lagers and ciders. The judges knew only the style and subcategory of each beer and cider. The Inn entered 4 of its Jasper Murdock Ales in the competition and won its first gold medal ever with its Famous Sidekick in the “Brown Ales” category. Silver Medals were earned by Old Slipperyskin IPA and First Pick in the “English Pale Ale/Bitter” and “American Pale Ale” categories, respectively. This makes 5 medals in the last 3 years for Jasper Murdock Ales. Whistling Pig Red Ale won a silver in 2008 and Stackpole Porter in 2007. Dakin, Brew Master at the Norwich Inn since mid-2006, is the creator of some 15 mostly English-style brews, known collectively as “Jasper Murdock Ales.” The brews are sold only on site on tap at Jasper Murdock’s Alehouse and by bottle or keg for off-premise consumption. “Last year I predicted a Three-Peat…maybe with a gold.” said Joe Lavin, owner of the Norwich Inn. “This performance exceeded even my highest expectations.” The Norwich Inn is located on Main Street in Norwich and dates back to 1797. It features 38 guest rooms, fine dining and Jasper Murdock’s Alehouse & Microbrewery. For more information see www.norwichinn.com or call 802-649-1143. |
