The Family Place Gingerbread Festival brings in over $20,000 a year of funding for the organization that provides the Upper Valley’s most comprehensive information, resources, and supports for parents of children ages birth to six. This signature event raises desperately needed funds The Family Place Parent Child Center uses annually to do its job. Newsletters and other parenting information available at the event raise awareness of the importance of best parenting practices. A large portion of the organization’s funding is restricted by program, including programs that have income or geographical guidelines. The unrestricted income of the Gingerbread Festival means that programs can be provided to all parents, regardless of income, in the Upper Valley who are seeking a better way to parent their children. As with other Upper Valley nonprofits, donations are scarce and support is dwindling. What effect will the current economic climate have on the Gingerbread Festival? What impact will this have on the overall agency budget? This year the 6th Annual Family Place Gingerbread Festival takes place on Saturday, December 6 at Tracy Hall in Norwich, VT from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Amid music, greens, twinkling lights, and the warm scent of gingerbread, families will enjoy children’s activities, Gingerbread House viewing, and gingerbread house decorating demonstration covered by the $10 per family and $5 per individual entry fees. There will be a store, café, raffle, and silent auction. This year Home Comfort Warehouse and Vermont Castings will be offering 30% off its entire line of wood and gas stoves. All sale proceeds will benefit The Family Place. For more information and a list of happenings at the event, including auction items and donors, visit the-family-place.org. |
